Resembling horned, feline humanoids, the myr are a mammalian race native to Varsad. Their digestive system favors a carnivorous appetite and so they rarely eat fruits or vegetables directly.
Male Myr are noticeably larger and their horns are more pronounced than females. Myr females go through a period of heat every few years (1/year roll a Will Save: DC 12 + number of years without breeding). The first heat happens early in adulthood and hits strong, but they can delay this period after their first time. However, during this period of heat, they must be relaxed and calm in order to mate and conceive (their reproductive organs are effectively closed off), leading to elaborate measures by men to appease the women for their reproductive organs to relax. Myr females give birth in litters of two to five every two to three years. In addition, Myr are super-fecund, meaning that the same litter can have multiple fathers. Markings can usually be used to identify the father, but occasionally it is ambiguous.
Myr are go through First Heat (usually) at the age of 15 after which they are considered adults, they reach middle age at 30, old age at 45 and venerable at 60. They live for 2d10 years after venerable.
Myr are one of the younger races formed at the end of the Second Age. According to Seeker accounts, Four-Winds used the last of the materials gathered from his siblings to create the Myr. He granted them the lust of Ashrahka, the strength of Selazane, the speed of Raena, the relentlessness of Kabutano, the unbreakable kinship of Mana, and the inventiveness of Temporo.
The Myr are matriarchal, but patrilineal. Because multiple males can impregnate a single female and their markings indicate their father, men claim their own children from the mother. However, women are generally more valuable and have more rights in Myr society, so women often designate an heir from among their daughters while the rest of her daughters are encouraged to find their own way. Wealthy myr women claim many husbands as a sign of wealth, prestige and power. However, it it not uncommon for men to be part of multiple reverse harems in their lifetime. In popular consciousness, men are not considered mature enough to have multiple partners and are thus forbidden to take multiple wives. Sexuality is an open concept for the Myr and sexual prowess is often the topic of gossip and speculation.
Myr women have all the power in their relationships with men. Men must seduce women in elaborate displays, gifts, massages, poetry, song and any other impressive display to relax and woo the woman. In the end, the woman claims the man who proves the most capable. Sometimes, the woman plays coy and discards a courting man during this process, but later changes her mind after he has moved on to a new woman. It is not uncommon for a jealous woman to then try to reclaim his courtship, resulting in ritualistic combat between the two women. Men have little to no say in this duel.
Men who haven’t sired offspring by their 25th year are generally considered infertile or incapable of proper courtship. This dishonor extends to the father of the man who failed to train him in courtship properly and must either bear the disgrace, or mark him as disowned in an elaborate ritual before the mother. Men are also not considered to be capable at raising young in anything other than courtship, so motherless myr are generally taken in as wards of the state or claimed by a female relative.
